The event

 

The O'Neill Clans Gathering is designed to bring together O’Neill family members from around the globe to share stories and celebrate an incredibly rich and diverse history of one of Europe’s oldest and most celebrated clans.

The four-day long event will take in visits to various historical O’Neill sites including:

  • The Hill of The O’Neill in Dungannon, County Tyrone
  • The coronation site of The O’Neill in nearby Cookstown
  • Optional Walking tours of Armagh – a city with a rich O’Neill heritage and
  • A Visit to Ireland’s capital city Dublin.

Overnight stays at:

  • 3* Armagh City Hotel-Armagh (3 nights)
  • 4* Clyde Court Hotel – Dublin (1 night)

DAY 2 - May 23rd 2013

2 Talks on the history, genealogy and legends of the ONeill clans
11.00am Coffee break
11.30am 2 further talks including a talk on the Battle of Benburb
1.00pm Lunch & tour of priory
2.30pm Coach leaves Benburb Priory - coach tour of Benburb battle site
3.00 pm

Coach arrives in O'Fiaich library and archive, Armagh. Exhibition of documents and maps in relation to ONeill history.

Short talk of the Battle of the Yellow Ford.
3.30pm Coach tour of the site of the Battle of the Yellow Ford
4.00pm Benburb Priory, Tea and Coffee reception
4.30pm

Visit Benburb Castle - "Chief House" of Shane "The Proud O'Neill"

Special exhibition of O'Neill Country Prints.

Living History re-enactment
6.30pm

Procession led by Pipers to barbecue at the Bottle of Benburb (a Tavern          from the time of Shane ONeill) followed by a cultural evening of            Traditional Music, Song and Story Telling with special guests.

DAY 3 - May 24th 2013

9.00am Depart Hotel for Dungannon
9.30am Coach leaves Ann Street Dungannon for Burnavon Centre Cookstown
10.00am Reception by Cookstown Council at Burnavon Centre Cookstown                     light refreshments and short talks on the historical                              importance of Tullyhogue and Cookstown Council's vision for Tullyhogue
11.30am Re-enactment of the ONeill crowning at Tullyhogue
1.00pm Visit to Cookstown Shopping Precinct
2.00pm Coach leaves for Viscount restaurant Dungannon and Glenavon House Hotel
2.15pm Lunch
3.30 Visit to Dungannon town
5.00pm

Reception on the Hill of O'Neill by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, this will include a reception, a talk on the historical                             importance of the Hill, guided tour of the Hill, time to browse the

exhibitions in the Ranfurly building,                                                        followed by a buffet plus entertainment
8.30pm

OPTIONAL EVENING(£5.00 EXTRA)
Social evening and ceili in the Eoghan Rua club Coalisland hosted

by the local O'Neill group.
