We begin the journey to Kinsale, stopping along the way for a hearty Irish breakfast. As we travel south, our journey will take us through the historic town of Cashel. Here you will have an opportunity to take a photo of the famous Rock of Cashel. A spectacular group of medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale. After taking our photos we will get settled back onto the coach before we continue our drive south to the town of Midleton. Here we will visit the world famous Jameson Whiskey Distillery. You will visit the Jameson Bar for a whiskey tasting session and follow the Old Distillery Trail through the various historic and unique mills, malting houses, corn stores, and still houses. In the late afternoon we will continue our journey to Kinsale. This famous fishing village is also known as the gourmet capital of Ireland. Day 3 – Tuesday 26th September – Day Trip to Cobh, Kinsale Walking Tour & Free Time

This morning after a hearty Irish breakfast our first stop will be to the harbour town of Cobh where we will tour the Cobh Heritage Museum located at the Victorian Railway Station. Cobh is where the Titanic made its last port of call before its one and only voyage. We will return to the beautiful town of Kinsale in the early afternoon & we will take the opportunity to have a guided walking tour with guide Dermot Ryan. After your guided walking tour, you are free to explore Kinsale at your own leisure. You may wish to shop in some of the local craft shops, one such shop is Boland’s Craft & Gift Shop or Granny’s Bottom Drawer. You will love their huge selection of products. Browse to your heart’s content and see hand crafted Celtic and local jewellery, Aran knitwear, heraldic scrolls, children’s fleeces and souvenirs galore. If you wish to visit the local attractions, we would recommend Desmond Castle & the International Wine Museum. Built as an urban tower house by the Earl of Desmond c.1500, Desmond Castle has served as Customs House, Prison, Ordnance store and a Workhouse. The Museum details the history of the Wine Geese; the intriguing story of Ireland’s wine links with Europe and the wider world. You will have many options for dinner this evening & your Tour Director will be delighted to offer suggestions for you.

Day 4 – Wednesday 27th September – Kinsale to Killarney via Bantry, Glengarriff & Kenmare

After a leisurely breakfast this morning, we bid farewell to County Cork and travel along the Beara Peninsula to Killarney. Our tour of West Cork first takes us via the coastal towns of Bantry and Glengarriff before we reach the small attractive town of Kenmare. As with many areas on Ireland’s south-west coast, Bantry claims an ancient connection to the sixth-century Saint Breandán (Naomh Bréanainn), the Navigator. In Irish lore, Saint Breandán was the first person to discover America. Glengarriff is a small seaside village positioned on the Ring of Beara surrounded by high rugged mountains, pocked with old bogs being farmed for peat. Kenmare is set on a deep bay between the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks to the north and the Caha Mountains to the east. We will also travel along Ladies view before we arrive in Killarney. The town of Killarney is world famous due to its exquisite location beside lakes and mountains, which consist of three lakes – Lough Leane, Muckross Lake (also called Middle Lake) and Upper Lake. We will gather this evening for dinner at our hotel and afterwards you may explore and experience the vibrant pub scene of this fantastic town.

Dinner & Overnight: International Hotel, Killarney

Day 5 – Thursday 28th September – Dingle Peninsula & Blasket Visitor Centre

Today we set out to tour the beautifully rugged & scenic Dingle Peninsula and Blasket visitor centre. This group of islands, to the west of Slea Head known as the Blasket Island was inhabited until 1953. Many of Ireland’s great Gaelic literary figures were born and raised on the great Blasket Island. After a tour at the Blasket visitor centre you will have time to explore the famous town of Dingle and experience the hospitality that awaits you. As a market town and fishing port, Dingle has long been well supplied with pubs; more than 40 at the last count, and the variety is almost as great as the number. You will have many options for dinner when we return to Killarney and a wonderful evening in the town awaits you on your doorstep.

Day 6 – Friday 29th September – Killarney to Renvyle via Cliffs of Moher & the Burren Smokehouse

After breakfast this morning we leave behind the kingdom of Kerry and travel to Connemara via the Cliffs of Moher. We take the short ferry ride from Tarbert to Killimer while taking in some of Ireland’s most beautiful coastlines. We stop at the Cliffs of Moher, one of the most outstanding features of County Clare, rising sheer above the sea to nearly 700 feet and extending along the coast for nearly five miles. After a short drive we then pay a visit to the Burren Smokehouse. The Burren Smokehouse is a family-run business set up in 1989 by the owners Birgitta & Peter Curtin in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare. They believe in buying the best foods Ireland has to offer, as locally as possible. Here you will have an opportunity to taste organic cold and hot smoked salmon while enjoying a visual presentation about the unique smoking process. Experience and discover mosaics inside and outside their shop and look at the first kiln used to set up the Burren Smokehouse. We continue our journey west from Galway to travel to the beautiful and serene location of Renvyle House Hotel in Connemara.

Day 8 – Sunday 1st October – Connemara & Kylemore Abbey

Today we explore the serene region of Connemara which John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara made famous in the classic film, “A Quiet Man”. This rocky land of broad-backed mountains and pearl-like lakes is the largest Irish speaking section of the country. The old traditions and way of life are as much a part of Connemara’s attractions as is the scenery. Sit back and relax as we drive along this tranquil route through Tullycross to reach Kylemore Abbey. The Abbey is the only Irish home of the Benedictine Nuns. Built originally as a castle it is one of the best examples of Irish neo-gothic architecture. We travel back to Renvyle in the early afternoon where you are free to explore and experience many of the services available at Renvyle House. This evening, after our full day of touring we will meet for dinner at the hotel.

The name refers to 14 important Anglo-Norman merchant families who lived there and dominated the life and trade of the city during the middle ages. After some free time in Galway we continue our journey eastward stopping at the monastic site of Clonmacnoise. An early Christian site founded by St Ciaran in the mid-6th century on the eastern bank of the River Shannon. The site includes ruins of a Cathedral, churches, round towers and high crosses and the largest collection of early Christian grave slabs in Western Europe.
