Day 3 – Monday 11th September 2017 - Glen Keen Farm, Kylemore Abbey & Connemara

After breakfast, today, we will travel to Glen Keen Farm. Glen Keen (gentle/mild Glen) Farm is unique in Ireland, due to its size, location and natural beauty. Over 1,400 acres in size, it is larger than some national parks. You will be able to see a sheep herding demonstration before enjoying scones & tea in the tearoom. The farm also has a craft shop stocked with Irish handmade art and crafts and an historic photographic exhibition. Sit back and relax as we continue our drive along this tranquil route through Leenane to Kylemore. Here we visit Kylemore Abbey, the only Irish home of the Benedictine Nuns. Built originally as a Castle it is one of the best examples of Irish neo-gothic architecture. After Kylemore Abbey we will explore the rugged yet serene Connemara area which John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara made famous in the classic, “A Quiet Man”. This rocky land of broad-backed mountains and pearl-like lakes is the largest Irish speaking section of the country. The old traditions and way of life are as much a part of Connemara’s attractions as is the scenery. We return to Westport in the afternoon and the evening is yours to discover the many wonderful traditional Irish pubs and restaurants this award-winning town has to offer

Overnight & Breakfast: Knockranny House Hotel, Westport

Join the breath-taking Atlantic Drive along the coast and continue to Keel village to view the magnificent Minaun Cliffs. Achill has a number of Blue Flag beaches and many archaeological and historical sites including the famous deserted village at Slievemore and Kildamhnait Castle associated with Pirate Queen, Grace O'Malley. On return to Westport you will have more free time to explore the many shops, pubs and restaurants in the town.

Our journey continues via Adare village in County Limerick. Snuggled in a wooded and lush countryside setting Adare is widely regarded as being Ireland’s prettiest and most picturesque village. Adare dates back to at least the 13th century. We travel south to the town of Killarney, our base for the next three nights from which to tour the Kingdom County of Kerry. This mound of limestone bristling with ancient fortifications and mighty stone walls encircle a complete round tower, a roofless abbey, a 12th century Romanesque chapel, and numerous other buildings and high crosses. The Rock of Cashel is composed of four structures which are the Hall of the Vicars Choral, the cathedral, the round tower, and Cormac's Chapel. We arrive in Dublin in the afternoon and you will have time to rest up before we gather for dinner at our hotel this evening followed by more entertainment and songs & stories with Schooner Fare.

After breakfast this morning, we depart on a tour to the Garden of Ireland – County Wicklow. We leave the city behind and head for the heathery hills of the Wicklow Mountains, springing up at the edge of Dublin’s southern suburbs. We drive south through Enniskerry to Glendalough "the glen of the two lakes". It is a truly spellbinding place - an ancient monastic settlement and two clear water lakes beneath the sheer cliffs of a deep valley which was carved out by glaciers during the Ice Age. The monastic settlement has been a center for pilgrims and visitors since its foundation by St. Kevin in the 6th century. We continue our tour with a visit to the quaint village of Avoca, home to the original Avoca hand weavers. After a brief introduction at the visitor center which tells the story since 1723 and a mill tour, you are free to shop and sample some delightful food at their café. Avoca is also home to the making of the popular Ballykissangel television series. Tonight, we have a special farewell treat as we travel south of the city to the authentic Taylors Three Rock Pub & Restaurant and enjoy an evening of laughter, music and dinner.
